Defined by the Encyclopedia of Jazz as a "difficult man to classify", George Melly is a musician, raconteur, art critic, bon viveur, author and cartoonist. And he definitely is one of the most instantly recognizable characters in British jazz. In addition he was voted one of the Top 30 Jazz singers of the millennium, much to his surprise and embarrassment.

This collection captures George Melly back at the very start of his recording career roistering and a shoutin’ on these sides cut with Mick Mulligan and his band among others.
